Getting to the Museum
The Prospect House & Civil War Museum is located in the heart of Battle Lake, Minnesota, just a few blocks north of the main downtown intersection.

Free On-site Parking
Street Parking: Free parking is available directly in front of the museum along Lake Avenue North and to the south on Dunton St. W.
Accessible Parking: For visitors with mobility concerns, you may use the driveway area for access. Please call us in advance for specific assistance.
Driving Directions
From the South and West (I-94 / Fergus Falls): Take Highway 210 East into Battle Lake. Turn left (North) onto Lake Avenue (Highway 78). The museum is located three blocks up on your right.
From the North (Perham / Ottertail): Follow Highway 78 South into Battle Lake. The museum will be on your right as you enter the residential area, just before you reach the downtown shops.
From Glendalough State Park: We are just a 5-minute drive from the park! Head south on Highway 78 directly into town.
Tours
Guided tours available: 10:30am, 12:30pm and 2:30pm
Call 218-864-4008 to schedule a guided tour (60-90 minutes). Please call in advance.
Recommended tour size is 10 or fewer people. We will gladly accommodate group bus tours with advance notice. The house contains many stairs; there are options for watching a video of the tour if you prefer not to climb stairs.
We are a Blue Star Museum which offers free admission to all active duty military personnel and their families from Memorial Day through Labor Day.

Glendalough Trail Overview
The 12-mile paved trail takes you through one of Minnesota’s most serene and beautiful state parks: Glendalough. Glendalough’s diversity makes it perfect for families and avid outdoor enthusiasts. The trail also connects you to the charming city of Battle Lake, offering shopping, eating, lodging, and fun events! And it’s a loop! You park your vehicle, enjoy the trail, without having to pick a point to turnaround. The video above highlights the park and the Battle Lake businesses.
The trail offers level terrain, perfect for riders and walkers of all ages and skill levels. Along the trail are show stoppers like the amazing Prospect House & Civil War Museum.
The trail loop is for non-motorized traffic and consists mostly of 10-foot-wide asphalt.”
Maplewood State Park
Northwest of Battle Lake about a twenty-five minute drive is Maplewood State Park. Its 9,250 acres contains eight major lakes and numerous ponds that offer places to swim, fish, boat, and relax. Maplewood has an extensive trail system that attracts hikers, horseback riders, and cross-country skiers. The park is known for its hardwood trees including sugar maple, basswood, American elm, and oak. In the fall, the park is a tapestry of red and gold leaves.
